What counts as ID

If you are registering to vote for the first time in your county and submit your registration application by mail, federal law requires you to provide a COPY of proof of identification with your application OR show acceptable documentation when you vote. Acceptable forms of identification include:

a current and valid photo ID OR
a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or government document that shows your name and address.

Kansas lets you pre-register from age 17, so you are on the roll the moment you turn 18.

Who can register, and what you need

To register in Kansas you must:

be a United States citizen
be a Kansas resident
be 18 years old by the next election
have completed the terms of your sentence if convicted of a felony; a person serving a sentence for a felony conviction is ineligible to vote
not claim the right to vote in any other location or under any other name
not be excluded from voting by a court of competent jurisdiction

Which primary can you vote in?

You are required to register with a party to participate in Kansas partisan primary elections. You should register with the party whose primary you would like to vote in. However, if you do not register with a party, you may be able to declare a party affiliation on Election Day in order to vote in that party's primary.
