Gillibrand Has Large Lead in New York
ActiVote’s September 26, 2024 New York U.S. Senate poll shows that Democratic incumbent Senator Kirsten Gillibrand leads her Republican challenger Mike Sapraicone by 19.4%. The poll was among 400 likely voters, has an average expected error of 4.9%, and was in the field between August 24, 2024 and September 25, 2024 with a median field date of September 9.
Sapraicone leads among rural voters, White voters and Republicans, and ties among men. Gillibrand leads among all other categories of voters.
Political Spectrum
The following table and graph show the support for Gillibrand and Sapraicone among left, moderate left, center, moderate right, and right voters. These groups are defined by splitting the national electorate in 5 equal sized groups of 20% each. Please note that in the blue state of New York, there are more left-leaning voters than the national average and fewer right-leaning voters.
Gillibrand dominates among left leaning voters (97%), as does Sapraicone among his core constituency on the right (89%). Gillibrand has a 22% lead among centrists.
Comparisons
In the 2022 New York Senate election, Democratic incumbent Senator Chuck Schumer beat his Republican opponent Joe Pinion by 14.0%. In 2018 incumbent Democratic Senator Gillibrand beat her Republican challenger Chele Farley by 33.0%. In our previous poll (August 5, 2024), Gillibrand led by 26.4%.
