Biden’s Approval Improves while Harris’ Approval Skyrockets
ActiVote’s August 3, 2024 monthly presidential approval poll finds that President Biden’s approval for July 1-20 (pre-withdrawal) was just 37.4% while his approval for July 22-31 (post-withdrawal) improved to 41.1%. His disapproval ratings were 54.5% (July 1-20) and 52.4% (July 22-31). Thus, his net disapproval went down from 17.1% to 11.3%.
Vice President Harris’s approval for July 1-20 (pre-withdrawal) was just 33.1% while her approval for July 22-31 (post-withdrawal) skyrocketed to 45.7%. Her disapproval ratings were 60.7% (July 1-20) and 50.9% (July 22-31) Thus, her net disapproval went down from 27.6% to 5.2%.
President Biden
Both polls (early July and late July) were among 1500 registered voters each with an average expected error of 2.5%.
Early July (July 1-20)
The only groups with a net non-negative approval rating are urbanites, Democrats and Blacks. Youngsters are the most undecided group with 19% undecideds.
Late July (July 22-31)
The improved approval rating has led to more groups with a net-approval rating. Besides urbanites, Democrats and Blacks, it now includes youngsters (18-29), Latinos and those with low incomes.
Political Spectrum
The following tables and graphs show the approval for President Biden among left, moderate left, center, moderate right, and right voters. These groups are defined by splitting the national electorate in 5 equal sized groups of 20% each
What can be seen from the tables is that Biden’s approval increased significantly among the left (+7%) and moderate left (+9%) and somewhat among centrists (+3%). There was no improvement among the (moderate) right.
Vice President Harris
Both polls (early July and late July) were among 750 registered voters each with an average expected error of 3.6%.
Early July (July 1-20)
The only groups with a net non-negative approval rating are Democrats and Blacks. Youngsters are the most undecided group with 14% undecideds.
Late July (July 22-31)
The improved approval rating has led to many groups with a net positive approval rating. It now includes urbanites, younger people (18-29), women, Democrats, Blacks, Latinos, low and middle income earners and those with high school or less.

What can be seen from the tables is that Harris’’ approval skyrocketed among the left (+26%), moderate left (+13%) and centrists (+19%). There was also some improvement among the moderate right (+5%).
