Trump’s Approval Holds at a Second-Term Low

ActiVote’s September 1, 2026 presidential approval poll finds that President Trump’s approval rating is at 37.9%, while his disapproval rating is at 56.4%, yielding a net disapproval of 18.5%.

A total of 1,000 ActiVote users weighed in on Trump’s approval between August 1 and August 31. They rated Trump on a 5-star rating, which is then converted into standard “approval” and “disapproval” percentages.

At 37.9%, August’s approval matches July as the lowest of Trump’s second term, below the 39.5% recorded in April, and below the 40.5% reported in June. It is also below the average approval during Trump’s first presidency (41.0%). Disapproval rose from 55.3% to 56.4%, the highest of the second term.

The only group with a net positive approval rating is Republicans (+74%). Closest to break-even are those 65 and older (-2%) and men (-5%). Rural voters are at -10%, while voters under 50, urban voters, women, and those with a graduate degree are all at least 25 points net negative.

If we look at the left-to-right spectrum, Trump’s disapproval on the Left and Moderate Left is nearly unanimous (99% and 92%). Support on the Right and Moderate Right has dropped significantly to 81% and 72%. The Center is just below the national mood this month, at 33% approval and 53% disapproval, a net -20% compared to -18% nationally.
