Trump’s Approval Holding Steady

ActiVote’s August 1, 2025 presidential approval poll finds that President Trump’s approval rating is holding steady at 44.5% while his disapproval rating ticked up to 52.1% yielding a net approval rating of -7.6%, which is his worst net approval rating of his second term.

A total of 454 ActiVote users weighed in on Trump’s approval between July 1 and July 31. They rated Trump on a 5-star rating, which is then converted into standard “approval” and “disapproval” percentages.

July’s numbers are still better than Trump’s average over the 48 months of his first presidency (41%), better than Biden’s average approval rating for his full term (41%), and Biden’s final year’s approval rating (40%).

The groups with a net positive approval rating are rural, older voters (50+), men and Republicans, White voters and those with low incomes.

If we look at the left-to-right spectrum, Trump’s approval among his base, the moderate right and right, dropped to 82%, four points down from last month, while his disapproval from the left and moderate left improved by two points to 93%. The crucial group of centrists are back in the plus with a +4 approval rating.

We have two possible explanations for the relatively low approval rating among his base: one is that the Epstein issue is reflected in the approval rating. The other is that our July poll has a low sample size and a low (unweighted) response rate among his base, which could make that the 80% and 84% approval on the right is actually an outlier, suggesting that his approval rating has a chance to improve in next month’s poll.

We encourage you to participate in next month’s Approval Poll.
