Biden's Approval Drops Back Down

ActiVote’s June 2, 2024 monthly presidential approval poll finds that President Biden’s overall approval dropped back down to 38.6%. This is a significant 3.4% drop from his April 42.0% approval rating. His disapproval rating went up by 3.9%: from 51.7% in April to 55.6% today.

ActiVote voters have weighed in on Biden’s approval rating since April 2021, with on average 903participants per month and 1501 participants in May 2024, rating Biden on a 5-star rating, which is then converted into standard “approval” and “disapproval” percentages.

The only groups who approve of Biden at least as much as that they disapprove of him, are urbanites, Democrats, Blacks and Latinos. Among the various age groups, Biden struggles the most with youngsters, of whom only 35% approve of him.

If we look at the left-to-right spectrum, part of Biden’s low approval comes from two phenomena. First, his base on the left is less approving of him than the right disapproves of him: 18% of the left and moderate left disapprove of him, while only 5% of the right and moderate right approve of him. Second, the crucial group of centrists reflect the overall sentiment of the nation: only 36% approve of Biden, while 54% disapprove.

According to our presidential election polls those disapproving of him on the left are likely to vote for Biden in November anyway. Therefore, the key challenge for Biden will be to increase his approval rating with the centrists. Unfortunately for Biden, in comparison with our April approval poll, he is moving in the wrong direction.
