Alsobrooks has double-digit lead in Maryland

ActiVote’s October 31, 2024 Maryland U.S. Senate poll shows that the Democratic candidate Angela Alsobrooks leads against her Republican opponent former governor Larry Hogan by 13.2%

The poll was among 400 likely voters, has an average expected error of 4.9%, and was in the field between October 7, 2024 and October 30, 2024 with a median field date of October 19. 

Hogan leads among rural voters, the elderly (65+), men, Republicans, Whites and those with some college. Alsobrooks leads or ties all other categories.

Political Spectrum

The following table and graph show the support for Alsobrooks and Hogan among left, moderate left, center, moderate right, and right voters. These groups are defined by splitting the national electorate in 5 equal sized groups of 20% each. Please note that in the blue state of Maryland, there are more left-leaning voters than the national average and fewer right-leaning voters.

Alsobrooks has support from the left and moderate left completely locked up: 94% support him. Hogan has even more support from the right and moderate right (99%). Centrists also favor Hogan. Alsobrooks compensates for Hogan’s lead in the center by the fact that there are more left-leaning voters (52%) in Maryland than right-leaning voters (29%).

Comparisons

In the 2022 Maryland Senate election, Democratic incumbent Chris van Hollen beat his Republican challenger by 31.7%. In 2018 incumbent Democratic Senator Ben Cardin beat his Republican challenger Tony Campbell by 34.5%.
