Biden’s Approval Improves further while Harris’ Approval steadies 

ActiVote’s September 1, 2024 monthly presidential approval poll for August 2024 shows President Biden’s approval rating at 44.0% with his disapproval rating at 49.0%. The vice-presidential approval poll for August 2024 shows Vice President Harris’ overall approval rating at 44.9% with her disapproval rating at 52.5%.

President Biden

The presidential approval poll was in the field from August 1 till August 31 among 7325 registered voters with an average expected error of 1.1%

Biden has a net positive approval rating among urbanites, youngsters (18-29), women, Democrats, Blacks and Latinos.

Political Spectrum

The following tables and graphs show the approval for President Biden among left, moderate left, center, moderate right, and right voters. These groups are defined by splitting the national electorate in 5 equal sized groups of 20% each 

Biden has a net positive approval rating of 67% among left-leaning voters (the left and moderate left), while he has a net negative approval rating of 74% among right-leaning voters (the right and moderate right). His approval rating among centrist is a net negative rating of 11%

Tracking

President Biden’s approval rating improved significantly in August compared to July, and even increased compared to the July 22-31 approval ratings (just after he dropped out of the presidential race): 41.1 approval and 52.4% disapproval, thus a 2.9% and 3.4% improvement in August.

Vice President Harris

The vice-presidential approval poll was in the field from August 1 till August 31 among 1998 registered voters with an average expected error of 2.2%

Harris has a net positive approval rating among urbanites, Democrats, Blacks, Latinos, and those with the lowest incomes.

Political Spectrum

The following tables and graphs show the approval for Vice President Harris among left, moderate left, center, moderate right, and right voters. These groups are defined by splitting the national electorate in 5 equal sized groups of 20% each 

Harris’s approval is near universal among left-leaning voters, while her disapproval is near universal among right-leaning voters. Her approval rating is a net negative 26% among centrists.

Tracking

Harris’ approval rating has skyrocketed since President Biden dropped out of the presidential race. While the August approval rating is a clear improvement compared to July overall, her approval has slipped slightly compared to the approval rating for July 22-31 (immediately after President Biden dropped out of the presidential race), when her approval was 45.7% and her disapproval was 50.9%, resp. 0.8% and 1.6% more favorable than in August.
